In your life you will come to many crossroads and what path you choose to make will determine how your life moves on.
My last major crossroad was when i took redundancy over three years ago. I define any man or women with a love of gambling and poker who thinks they can do both say they have not thought about trying to make it pay from doing either. It all looks so easy and what better way to make money (or try) by doing something we love. It looks so much easier than working six till two, five days a week on a shift pattern in some boring factory.
In reality its near on impossible the hours grinding away at poker tables and the ups and downs of both poker and gambling can cause all kinds of problems. At least by working in that factory you are guaranteed a wage each week. (Maybe on reflection with the current climate i should not have put that last sentence in.)
Very few make money from doing either and its getting harder month by month.
I class myself as someone who knows a bit about most sports, l love most of them with the exception of formula 1 but even then l will watch the first lap or tune in if its raining. I mean after all most people will only watch it to see if their are any crashes. It is in fact one of the few sports that l don't have a bet on. There lies the problem.
Just over a week ago l was brought to the attention of a thread on a forum about making money from football matches. It was to do with trading on betfair before televised matches were played, the person had been studying markets and was predicting which way they would move before kick-off. The man has already shown an healthy profit so far this season by rolling the money which was given by investors onto each game. I don't think he has lost on any match so far.
This really has made me think, l thought l was scrapping by but in reality l have been bumming it.
My profit and loss shows l am up in baseball, boxing, cricket, golf, greyhound racing, rugby both league and union, soccer and tennis.
My losses are in darts which was minor and horse racing.
My best sports to be betting on which showed the healthiest profit were indeed football, golf and greyhound racing (due to some nice ante post bets).
My loss on the horses took up over half of my profits on other sports.
As l have said before to make it pay you need DISCIPLINE something l have not shown in the past few months, professional gambler (l am in no way a professional gambler, just saying what one would do) would not be having bets in so many sports, l think they would stick to what they really know best, put in the time and research and collect all information possible to give them an edge.
That is where l fall short, l should never be betting on the horses, l have no inside information, hardly take the required effort to study form and in this sport it has far too many variables. Horses, jockeys, trainers, ground, distance, weight too name but a few.
Its all too easy to sit at home and watch a race every ten minutes, all far too easy.
I said a few weeks ago l have been looking for a job and l still am but l need to step back and have a closer look on how l do things with my betting. I don't want to be that casual punter and in reality l don't think l should, my football betting stands up pretty well on its own (not being a bighead) and that is what l should really stick.
It now looks like l have come to another crossroads in my life.
Don't fall into the same trap l have found myself falling into.
That is all.

Good read rudds. Over what period of time was that profit and loss based on?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteThe profit and loss was based over the last three months, horse racing was shocking in truth and darts loss was for six pounds which l could live with.
There is money to be made at horse racing but...it takes a hell of a lot of time to study form etc and thats where 90% of all punters fail...
ReplyDeleteBetter off trying to find one short priced horse to lay against being placed.....
These can pay very decent money for not much of an outlay if the bet loses...
Look for short priced favs stepping up in trip and class on ground they havnt shown any form on
These usually win or are unplaced....
Yes mate l totally agree with you.
ReplyDeleteMuch easier to lay a hore than back one. I just think I should take a step back from the horse racing and try to install some discipline back into my betting.
Maybe just be writing this when it come to an afternoon's meeting I should take time out to read it.
It just might save me in the long run.
