I am not a big drinker, i am what you would call a social drinker, don't drink at home in fact i don't have any alcohol in the house, but the missus took the kids to a wedding on Saturday so, i decided to venture out and kill two birds with one stone, a poker tournament and a few beers. After getting a lift to the Legion, i arrived though the doors at 12.00, talk about eager, but no point in doing things in half measures.
While playing poker i carried on drinking and come the end of the tournament, i was on the way, even got into a discussion with a young child on the merits of WWE and it not being fake, try telling a 12 year old that wrestling is real and you will have a friend for life, the only trouble was we could not agree on who is the best wrestler, I tried putting Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks into the mix which seemed to go over his head while he came back with John Cena which went over my head. It was getting on for 8.00 and i decided its time to get back while i could still walk in nearly a straight line.
Once back home i decided to get dropped off down the pub, now i was having trouble downing pints so it was onto the jack Daniels, i think i left about 10.00 and arrived home before match of the day.
Now all i can remember is the missus being upstairs and me asking her if she was hungry, because i was just going to put a pizza in the oven while i watch the football, next thing i can recall is waking up with smoke in the room, i quickly went into the kitchen and opened the oven door, but i could not see anything, thinking i had never put a pizza in there in the first place, i opened windows turned the oven off and noticed it was 12.30, surely i had not been asleep that long?
Once the smoke had gone i went to bed, still wondering where the pizza was, in the morning after being woken by the kids and not feeling my best i again ventured into the kitchen and opened the oven door to find a shrivelled up peperoni pizza that was burnt to cinders.
Looking back i cant feel how lucky i was that i never burnt the house down and have decided it's best to get smoke alarms.
