That's Life.

Not been the best of weeks on Sunday l was woken by my mother in a real state banging on the door, my father had fallen over in the bedroom and could not get up. Things start to race around your head and you assume the worst.

With my parents living a matter of yards down the road l was dressed and over there in seconds. Seeing him on the floor was a massive shock to the system, l managed to help him get up and all the stuff that went with it, it really shakes you up. You remember that it was not so long ago that he was doing all the things that seem so normal, yet here he is needing my help to get up.

The doctor was called and all credit to the paramedics who were round the house in no time at all. Thankfully he is getting better now and hopefully over the worst.

Monday comes and it's time to get the daughter back from her weekend stopping over at nannies, it's very hard to try and explain that her grandad is not very well.

Meanwhile the missus does some shopping, she is always on the look out for a bargain and thinks she has one with twelve toilet rolls at a knock down price, its not until l go to use them a couple of days later and find out the paper is so thin you actually put your finger through it before you have even tried to wipe your arse.

Best take curry off the menu for a few weeks.

Monday night l watch Life. I never used to be into these documentaries but since watching Big Cat diaries, l find these programmes fascinating

Tuesday is very quiet and betting wise l manage to make a small profit and make a mental note to drop the missus some extra cash for some decent toilet rolls next time she goes shopping. The tv highlight is watching the repeat of Flashforward from the previous night, turning into a really good series.

Wednesday is a nightmare nothing goes right, get the electricity and gas bills and wonder what we actually do to use that amount of electricity. My day cannot get any better my tips all bite the dust. The worst thing is l should have made money Sevilla were winning 1-0 with ten minutes to go and in the Kiev game two goals were scored in the last five minutes. It's my own fault l had every opportunity to green up and make money but l had decided after the Barcelona debacle to let it ride.

Big mistake.

My night is finished off by watching the last game of the baseball world series, the missus seems to be happy as she now thinks no more late nights watching baseball in bed while she is trying to sleep. Little does she know is now its the Hockey season.

Thursday and the postman knocks on the door to give me my electricity standby saver and monitor (special thanks to Minty if your reading this for the tip). The first thing l do is check on what we use and immediately turn into Victor Meldrew, unplugging plugs and turning off lights and switches.

When you think about it, its stupid l am quite prepared to back a football team for a few hundred quid but now l am moaning about someone leaving a light on.

After setting everything up, night time came and l decided to have a little bet on the MLS, l layed Columbus @ 1.70 twenty minutes into the the game and the bet looks doomed Columbus go 1-0 up and its gets worse as they score a second goal a few minutes later, not happy l decide to turn everything off and use my new found energy saver and slope off upstairs and watch the game in bed. Just finished having a wash and getting into bed when l turn the tv on to find l can't get any sky pictures, took me a few minutes to realise that this was on standby as well. Now l had to go back downstairs and fiddle the plugs about again. After finally sorting that out and getting back into bed my luck had changed as Real salt Lake had levelled to make it 2-2.

Now should l go back downstairs and lay off ? Feck that I'm not moving now and you can all guess what happened next.

Wrong

Real salt lake actually went on and scored to make it 2-3, my bet had come in.

I could turn the tv off and sleep peacefully.
