We have all seen him say it "The old Mike Matusow would have gone bust there but not this Mike, this is the new Mike baby". Well in some ways l think we all have the Mike Matusow tendencies to go bust and blow up in a tourney or game. Hopefully that won't happen to me with this challenge but that remains to be seen.
The good thing is l am trying to cut it out while l am playing, l will get into good positions in a game and then make a stupid play or get mixed up in a pot l should not be in and proceed to donk off most of my chips. It's not a comparison to being in a big tourney with a field of hundreds or even playing the minefield that is the WSOP but the principles are still the same.
So far l have managed to cut them down, down but not out, yes l am afraid l still do them. While playing a game l can feel the demons inside wanting to come out. I still consider myself a tight player but the crazy moves when the board is littered with danger and even though you have worked out your are behind or indeed drawing dead you still try to put the bluff in and make a play. Then seconds later all the hard work you have put in comes falling down and you sit starring at your screen looking at the words thank you for playing you have finished fourth or whatever the bubble may be.
On Thursday, everything seemed to come together, played well and cashed in eight out of ten double games, giving me some ammunition to play the eighteen seat short handed game. Being busted in my first game, all went to plan in my second winning the tourney this was then backed up by winning another straight away. My night finished around two in the morning when l won the two tables multi, boosting my balance even further.
The only downside to my day was being slow rolled by someone called Sweetjay who was anything but that. A raise on the button by my new friend was instantly re-raised by me with the monster that is A 6 thinking he was at it. He then proceeded to press time bank till it was done to the bare seconds before turning over queens. Now this being a double up game having been at a table with him before one thing l can tell you is Sweetjay is no rock.
After my exit l politely asked about the slow roll but as yet l am still waiting for an answer.
Well Sweetjay if you ever read this you are now on my naughty list.
To be continued.
