I have always said that poker imitates life, how people play depends on how their life is going. If you had a good day and are generally happy in life that helps when you sit down and play. Being relaxed must help you in your thought process.
Maybe that's why l have been doing so well lately because finally l am starting to see the balance grow and the pressure has eased of my shoulders.
The trouble is l am falling into the trap l see so often at this level at the moment and that is, l call when l should just lay the hand down. In some ways l feel l am trying to be too clever, looking to set traps and end up getting caught myself.
Just last night l looked down and had aces l wanted to get the maximum out of my hand and with only the SB and BB to act after me and no one else in the pot l decided to raise the bare minimum the BB called and l proceeded to bet, having put half my stack in l was going to go allin on the turn, but with four spades on the board and no spade in my hand l still bet the turn, now on the river the guy immediately put me allin that would/should be an instant fold even if l thought he was at it in my right mind l would have layed my hand down, but what did l do l called. still to this minute l can't explain why l did. I just think that's what happens to you game when you see it all the time, you get sucked in.
Not really sure how l would describe my game at the moment, l must be doing something right because l am getting the results but if l am honest l don't really think its my A game or anywhere near it because l can be so hit and miss.
The worst thing is when you know something is wrong but cant quite put your finger on it.
Once down to the final ten or six depending on what format l play l fancy my chances as you should its just that at times l tend to go into my shell and wait for others to do battle, of course much has to do with the size of chip stacks and all that.
Again making the moves is as much to do with timing as anything else.
The last two days have been good without being spectacular, l am still making a nice profit each day and building the balance up and last night brought about a funny moment. Playing one game we were down to four and it took ages the blinds were small at the time so l was confident on picking my spots.
Eventually we were down to three players and it was here l noticed the player Wares244 photo it was one were you had a look then have another look and then another. Now assuming she is a women and not a six foot eighteen stone Glaswegian (loads of them about) l must say l had another look just too make sure.
She must have had nine lives because she used three of them up against me, l had her allin three times and she managed to escape with the worst hand. Soon we were heads up and after a short heads up game which l finally won now with no talk at the tables l thought l would be polite as l usually do when l win and said "gg" (good game) instantly she replied "fu*k you".
*I almost peed my pants laughing.
I would like to add if you are really that person it would be a pleasure.
*Thanks to Manager43 who was quick on the scene to issue a warning for abusive language.
My balance so far £247.89

For getting tricky with aces... it's good to do sometimes, but more often just playing itstraight forward will get you maximum returns, especially at the lower stakes.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hero calls... something I used to be absolutely terrible for. i always try and remember this line from one of the top pro's "it's better to make a bad fold than a bad call" - this applies especially in tourney poker IMO.
Anyways I lol'd at the women who lost her temper... hahaha, she seems very polite!
Yes your right, sometimes get stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, low on chips and you want to paid in full.
